Strange Psychokinetic Strategy
1974
So there's not really a plot but sort of overarching story is: Lupin II had this huge criminal organization (like 18 000 people or something?) but they were ALL killed by the Maccarone family. Except Lupin II's partner, Beige Jigen, who has now found the sole heir to the Lupin empire, this weird guy who wears weird clothes and does weird shit and lives in a concrete tube. Then there's a clay statue that has psychokinetic powers!
There was the nun flash mob. The vaguely explained psychic powers. The alien artifact. The toilet apartment. Older Jigen is an interesting concept and the outfits were honestly great. Hell yeah autumn fashion work it Lupin! Also I do really like that they brought back Fujiko's playing cards from the Pilot Film. Most of the humor is cartoon logic, but like, live action? And also people will just get straight up murdered upon occasion.
Sexual assault. Brief homophobia. Also, this movie is indisputably not good. It is stupid and bad and makes no sense. Zenigata's also just, like, some guy.

The Mystery of Mamo / The Secret of Mamo / Lupin III vs. the [SPOILER] / Lupin III
1978
I've only seen the Geneon dub (most recent) and the subbed version. Of the two, watch the sub, but the dub's cool too.
Do you want to see Lupin III being hanged to death?
At some point I'll put together my overwhelmingly positive thoughts on this movie, but for now: It's pretty great.
Lupin attempts to rape Fujiko. Brief scene of Fujiko being whipped in a vaguely sexual manner. Hitler is there.

The Castle of Cagliostro
1979
Both dubs are bad. Watch it subbed. I have yet to watch the '80s subs.
Lupin and Jigen rob a casino, but all the cash is counterfeit! Lupin recognizes them as coming from the little country of Cagliostro, so that's where they're headed. They then encounter a bride being chased by some guys with guns, and thus commences the best car chase in cinematic history. Does Lupin know this woman? What's with her ring??
The very beginning to the end of the fast part of the car chase is perfect, and the rest is my favorite movie.
Ceremonial guards who look like the KKK.

Legend of the Gold of Babylon
1985
I've only seen it subbed.
Some Babylonian tablets were uncovered under Madison Square Garden. They lead to, well, the gold of Babylon- because apparently Babylonians melted all their gold into one "object." The New York mob wants the gold, but so does Lupin and gang, of course. Also there's an old lady named Rosetta.
It's Really Weird. It really does out-weird Mamo. There are plenty of really pretty scenes- colors, animation- it's, visually, very nice. Manhattan Joke is indeed a bop.
The designs for a lot of background characters and side characters, specifically Chinese and Black characters, are just super racist caricatures. Nazis also make a very brief appearance. Some non-sexual clothes-ripping. Weird pacing issues- the motorcycle chase at the beginning is insufferably long. A lot of scenes seem way too long. Many ideas are presented and then never actually explored.

The Fuma Conspiracy / Plot of the Fuma Clan
1987
I've only seen it subbed.
Goemon is getting married to a girl whose family has the key to this huge treasure. Lupin and gang are going to steal the treasure. Infamous because budget cuts meant Yuji Ohno didn't do the soundtrack and there's a different voice cast.
Wonderful animation and TWO car chases. Goemon in the foreground.
I don't find the story to be all that compelling. Goemon's fiancée is very young.

Farewell to Nostradamus / Die! Nostradamus / To Hell With Nostradamus
1995
I've only seen it subbed. This was Kanichi Kurita's first performance as Lupin.
There's a cult called the Nostradamus Sect centered around the predictions written in Nostradamus' books. And now Lupin and Jigen are in Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval. They just stole a big diamond and Lupin hides it in a doll for some reason. On the plane to somewhere in the US, Julia, a kid Fujiko is chaperoning, steals Lupin's doll. Then the plane, which is also transporting a Brazilian soccer team, is hijacked.
The animation is so cute and bright and springy. Julia is a great character- we get to see Lupin being good with kids! Always a delight! I love that Zenigata's wonderful disguise at the beginning is never explained, and that Goemon's motivations are equally mysterious. Also all the character designs are great and I love Fujiko's first outfit. Cool and fun action sequences.
Starts and ends in a sick building, but most of the movie takes place far from this sick building. Sexual assault. Also boobs for like ten seconds. Also a few lolicon jokes.

Dead or Alive
1996
I've only seen it subbed.
Monkey Punch directed this one! Then apparently gave up partway through, allowing others to "save it."
So there's this country called Zufu. It is run by General Headhunter (sick name) who overthrew and executed the king. The prince, Pannish, is also dead. Headhunter really wants the king's fabled treasure, kept on Drift Isle. Lupin and co. also want the treasure. They end up accidentally kidnapping a double agent named Oleander when trying to kidnap the princess, who has the key to getting the treasure.
You may have gathered from the images on this website that I like how this movie looks. The character designs are absolutely peak (minus Zenigata's weird chin in a few scenes). Lupin looks great, Jigen got his nose back, Goemon got his eyebrows and sideburns back (similar to his manga design but w/ black hair, alas, we can't have everything), and Fujiko and Zenigata just look good, as they should. The backgrounds are stunningly beautiful and the animation is fun and bouncy when it needs to be. Both the art style and the writing blend a more serious, dark tone with funny bits as perfectly as MP's manga did (with NO sexual violence!!!).
The main five aren't on screen much.

Lupin the 3rd
2014
Lupin and Fujiko are members of a thief group called "The Works" (sure!). Jigen is the chairman's bodyguard. The chairman gives his chair status to Fujiko and then gets murdered. Uhh time to avenge or something- Jigen joins Lupin and Fujiko, and then immediately tells Lupin not to trust Fujiko... dude you just met them? They're mostly up against Michael Lee, another Works member, as they try to steal Cleopatra's necklace from a billionaire named Pramuk. Also Zenigata is using Lupin to get evidence to arrest Pramuk.
Jigen cooking and taking Fujiko's criticism and improving! Lupin convincing Goemon to join him by giving him candy! Goemon staring at a laser grid for so long he passes out! Jigen's waistcoat was a very strange material but waistcoat Jigen is always good. There's an MP cameo.
It's boring and very long.

Jigen's Gravestone / The Gravestone of Daisuke Jigen
2014
Sub to hear Kyoshi Kobayashi (and Kanichi Kurita), dub to hear Keith Silverstein.
Queen Ma[r/l]ta, who Jigen was bodyguarding, got assassinated! Jigen is now being targeted by the same assassin as he and Lupin steal a big gemstone. Fujiko is there.
It's gritty and dark and beautiful. A very interesting and sweet exploration of the beginning of Lupin and Jigen's partnership. Animated blood! Car chase! Jigen talks about fashion!
Violence and gore. Fujiko, while working in a high end strip club (to steal a thing), is, against her will, put naked in a glass tank with an animatronic covered in red latex that attacks her with a giant gold drill penis. It is harrowing and I always skip through it (the one thing keeping this from being a solid five-heart love rating).

Goemon's Blood Spray / The Blood Spray of Goemon Ishikawa
2017
I was NOT expecting Lex Lang to voice Goemon. Both sub and dub are good (but, again, it's Kobayashi v.s. Silverstein to me).
Goemon is working for a casino that Lupin and gang are robbing. Enter massive double-axe-wielding American man! Why is he here? Why can't Goemon immediately destroy him like usual?
Goemon is quite the badass. This is a severe understatement. He falls down and gets up again and it's great. He's great. They did a great job keeping Zenigata's overall personality from TWCFM while making him not the biggest bastard of the century. Absolutely fascinating exploration of how to support a loved one going through a traumatic experience. Also, the ending theme, "Satori," has become one of my go-to comfort songs simply because I cannot listen to "katana, my sword, remember the taste / of the bloody and lusty flesh" without laughing.
Extraordinarily graphically violent and gory. Themes of depression and self-harm. Alcohol and pot consumption.

Fujiko's Lie / Fujiko Mine's Lie
2019
I haven't watched the dub yet.
Fujiko is acting as a caretaker for Gene, a kid with a heart condition. They, and Gene's dad, are out in the middle of some North American desert. The dad embezzled money from this company so the company sent an assassin after him. This assassin has gray skin, eats weird fruit, and wears cute sneakers.
Fujiko kicks ass, because it is her movie. The animation is spectacular. The environments are super surreal and cool. And, wow, look! It's all coming together! It's all connected!! If there is no fourth movie I will scream. Jigen looks gay.
Violence and gore. Nudity. A child in extremely dangerous situations being cared for by violent criminals. And Bincam's death is ridiculous and a bit too funny.

The First
2019
I somehow have still only watched the dub.
Lupin and close pals are trying to steal the Bresson Diary. Laetitia, an amateur archaeologist, is also trying to steal the diary, though in an amateur manner. Guess who else wants the diary. Yep, it's Nazis.
The character animation is SPECTACULAR. At the end of the movie, Lupin tells Laetitia that he'll see her in five years, which will be in December 2024.
Nonchalant treatment of Nazis. I think it's boring and forgettable. The story is a bit too conventional for my taste.

Daisuke Jigen / Jigen Daisuke
2023
Jigen is not able to aim absolutely perfectly, so he goes to Japan to get his gun fixed. There, he meets a kid named Oto, and gets embroiled in a criminal organization situation.
Tetsuji Tamayama is, once again, really great as Jigen! All the new characters (Yaguchi, Oto, and Adele, namely) and side characters (the shopping alley people. I love them) are great and really memorable. The sets are incredible. The fight scenes are cool, including when Adele, the main antagonist, destroys like ten men while spinning around in a wheelchair. Cool disability representation! Also, it's paced perfectly, so, despite being long, it doesn't drag.
Violence, gore (please remember this is live action), torture, dead children (on screen), domestic abuse, physical abuse, childhood trauma.
